Laminate flooring is still a good choice for durable, easy-to-maintain flooring not regarded as a true type of resilient flooring. It is made from layers; the laminate can be printed to look like hardwood, bamboo, stone, etc. Not to be mistaken for laminated wood floors (which are truly wood floors made), laminated floors consist usually of some kind of fiber core with a print layer and a melamine coating. HPL (High-Pressure Laminate) is frequently used in commercial applications. DPL (direct-pressure laminate) is less costly but typically used in residential purposes.
HOW TO INSTALL Laminate flooring
Installation of laminate flooring is floated to the top of the subfloor, not glued down. “Floated fittings are useful in instances of makeovers where you can go through pre-existing flooring. Floated floors are more resistant to hydrostatic pressure issues and are not influenced by settlement cracks and minor sub-floor irregularities.”
